Aptitude instructions
Grid

Task
Identify and click the correct shape as quickly and accurately as possible.
How it works
Shapes appear briefly within a grid. Each shape has both a row shape and a column colour. When a shape appears that matches both the required shape and colour, click it.
Tips
- Stay visually relaxed — staring too hard reduces accuracy
- Scan the grid systematically rather than randomly
- Speed matters, but accuracy matters more over time
- Missed shapes are normal — refocus immediately
Crosshairs

Task
Keep the crosshairs centred on the target.
How to control
- Joystick (recommended)
- Mouse (can be used)
Tips
- Use small, precise movements
- Anticipate movement rather than reacting late
- Avoid over-correcting — smooth control scores better
- Aim to stay close to centre, not perfectly fixed
Crosshairs +

Task
Maintain centred crosshairs while monitoring an audio number sequence.
How it works
A sequence of numbers is read aloud, decreasing by a consistent amount. If the decrease changes, press the trigger/button.
How to control
- Joystick required
Tips
- Prioritise steady tracking first
- Listen passively — don’t repeat numbers out loud
- If you miss a sequence change, reset mentally and continue
- Multitasking performance improves with calm pacing
Diamonds

Task
Manage two tasks simultaneously: visual timing and mental arithmetic.
How it works
- Press space when a coloured diamond enters the matching coloured band
- Answer mental arithmetic questions as they appear
Tips
- Keep your visual timing steady — don’t rush it
- Answer arithmetic accurately rather than guessing
- If tasks clash, recover smoothly and continue
- Don’t fixate on mistakes — move on immediately
Diamonds +

Task
Handle three concurrent tasks under time pressure.
How it works
- Press space when the diamond matches the coloured band
- Answer quick-fire arithmetic questions
- Memorise an alphanumeric code and select it when options appear
Tips
- Prioritise tasks that change continuously
- Use short mental labels to remember codes
- Expect errors — recovery matters more than perfection
- Maintain a steady mental rhythm
Altitude

Task
Calculate and identify final altitude using given flight information.
How it works
You are shown current altitude and vertical speed. Use this information to calculate the final altitude after a set time.
Tips
- Break calculations into simple steps
- Use estimation to sanity-check answers
- Don’t rush — accuracy is key
- Stay calm under time pressure
Follow

Task
Keep the green dot centred using controlled inputs.
How to control
- Joystick required
Tips
- Make smooth, continuous corrections
- Look slightly ahead of your current position
- Avoid chasing the dot aggressively
- Consistency scores better than sharp movements
Orientation

Task
Assess spatial relationships using visual and audio information.
How it works
You will hear an instruction (e.g. “Negative, Left, Circle”) and must determine how many aircraft meet the criteria.
Tips
- Mentally place yourself inside the aircraft
- Process one instruction element at a time
- Visualise left/right from the aircraft’s perspective
- Pause briefly before answering
3D Tracking

Task
Maintain a stable approach and keep the aircraft on course.
How to control
- Joystick required
Tips
- Think in terms of trend correction, not instant fixes
- Small inputs are more effective than large ones
- Anticipate drift rather than reacting late
- Stay calm — smooth control is rewarded
Shapes

Task
Identify matching shapes accurately and quickly.
How it works
One of the lower shapes appears in the reference image. Identify and select the matching shape.
Tips
- Scan methodically
- Watch for subtle differences
- Avoid second-guessing once selected
- Accuracy improves with calm focus
Numeracy

Task
Answer as many arithmetic questions as possible within the time limit.
How it works
Questions test addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Tips
- Develop a steady answering rhythm
- Skip questions that stall you
- Accuracy beats guessing
- Don’t dwell on previous answers
Cube

Task
Identify which unfolded cube matches the 3D cube shown.
How it works
A cube with three visible patterns is shown. Match it to the correct flattened option.
Tips
- Rotate the cube mentally before checking options
- Track relative positions, not just patterns
- Work carefully but decisively
- Avoid rushing — small errors are common when stressed
General advice for all tests
- Practise little and often
- Expect performance variation between sessions
- Fatigue reduces accuracy — take breaks
- Focus on control, consistency, and recovery
